Honoring Dreams as Sacred Gifts

Rev. Bonnie Tarwater’s Six Magic Questions, adapted from Bob Hoss. Keep a dream journal and explore these questions about your dreams. Join a dream group for even greater insights!

1. What are the most important emotional issues in your life and what are the metaphors and associations in your connect with your waking life.
a. What are you doing or trying to do in the dream that may be similar to something in your life?
b. What are the feelings in the dream that are similar to your feelings in your making life?

2. Pick one dream symbol at a time and ask the “Six Magic Questions.”
a.I am __________________(dream symbol) and I am________________.
( Describe yourself and if you are a person what your personality characteristics are             and how you feel in that role, what is your color etc.)
b. My purpose as ____________(dream symbol) is to……….
c.What I like about being…………
d.What I dislike ………
e. What I fear most……..
f.What I desire most…….

3. Relate to your own life as you read each statement as if it is YOU saying something about YOUR life.

4. Dream guidance- did the dream give you a potential positive new direction?
a. Surprise- did something surprise you? What were you shown or what brought about this positive change? If you were to accept something unexpected in your waking life what would this mean?
b. Guidance-did you experience a message? How does this apply to your life?
c. Finish your dream. If the dream did not give you a positive ending, close your eyes and imagine a new positive ending and then ask the previous questions about your new ending.

5. Write down a solution to your waking life that the dream might be suggesting.
a. Is this a positive and healthy solution and if so how can you bring it about in specific ways in your life?
b. Make a token or totem and place it where you will see it in your daily life or on your altar so that it can remind you of this new direction or solution in your waking life. Draw, find a photo, make or find something that will represent this sacred dream symbol.

6. Explore the colors in your dreams and review the color chart for possible insights.
