There are many ways to work with dreams and I support and use many different techniques. There is more than one meaning to every dream and because dreams come to teach us what we do not necessarily know about ourselves we embark on the hero and or heroines inner journey.
“Last night I had the strangest dream I ever dreamed before., I dreamed the world had all agreed to put an end to war…………” Folksong by Ed Curdy
Three traditions in group dream sharing;
1.Keep a dream journal and write and or draw your dreams regularly and immediately when you wake up. If possible, bring written copies of a recent dream for the other group members to be able to read as well as hear your dream.
2. All dreams come for healing- especially nightmares. Even the smallest dream fragment is worthy of our attention.
3. There must be safety, kindness and confidentiality in the dream group and an appreciation that only the dreamer can know for sure what their own dreams mean. The more we honor our and other people’s dreams the more they will give us insights. In dream groups we use the expression, “In my dream…………..” while sharing our projections of someone else’s dream as we try to imagine what the dream would mean if we had dreamed it ourselves.
Each dream group begins with a short check in and the group ends with a check out inviting everyone to share what they are feeling and what is new at the beginning and how they felt about the group at the end. There is no cross talk during check in, check out and dream sharing. We read everyone’s dreams out loud and then read them a second time before we begin discussion. We begin and close with a prayer and or mediation as we invite holy blessings on our dreams and dream honoring together There is a sliding scale for those with a financial need and scholarships are available.
