God Is Love Church

God is Love Church is a church with no walls. Where everyone is welcome at the table, children and their families, the “spiritual but not religious”, the secular left who sometimes suffer from religious phobias, the religiously wounded, all sexual orientations etc.We:
1. Believe and teach that God loves us.
2. Know Americans are too lonely, therefore we are building loving community including and celebrating children and their families.
3. Embrace and explore all the arts in worship and church programs.
4. Work for social justice and peace as we, “Do unto the least of these.” Matthew 25:40
5. Teach Christian mysticism, for we are one.
6. Provide and encourage prayer practices, services and spiritual disciplines.
7. Create a theater program for people of all ages for individual and community
healing and transformation.

  1. To lift up the central message of Jesus, that God loves us and that God is love.
  2. To include welcome and celebrate children and their families in worship and church programs creating needed and meaningful intergenerational church experience. Families are too often lonely and religiously isolated in America. They are religious seekers looking for a church to raise their children. The only way we will change the world is to change the way we raise our children. This focus on children and families is not only the right thing to do, because children and their families are shamefully under served and spiritually adrift in our culture, but it assures church growth and vitality. The families in this area have the time and money to help build a vibrant Christian center.
  3. To provide an arts ministry using the visual and performing arts to revitalize the religious imagination, in order to bring the gospels alive, create meaning, truth, beauty and love in worship and church programs.
  4. “I swear to you, whatever you did for the least of these members of my family, you did for me as well.” Matthew 25:40. This will be an active social justice church teaching the need to respond to the greed, materialism and violence of our age and geography by working for social and economic justice and peace. This new church will work for the poor and for all those who are less fortunate. Social justice programs will be intentional about welcoming children and families to work in service together. Families are too often starved to death of the life affirming joy of living in service to others in our self centered materialistic society.
  5. To lift up and teach Christian mysticism, our oneness as a holy human family and our interconnectedness with creation, which invites us to be a welcoming church that fosters multiculturalism and gender, class and socio and economic diversity, to make all people welcome at the table. We begin as a “Open and Affirming” church meaning that we welcome people of all sexual orientations.
  6. To make our spiritual growth at the center of our church and provide and encourage the need for prayer practices and other spiritual disciplines and daily prayer services.

“To what kind of Christian, to what kind of church does the future belong? Not a church that is lazy, shallow, inefficient, timid and weak in its faith: not a church that expects blind obedience and fanatical party loyalty; not a church that is the slave of its own history, always putting on the brakes, suspiciously defensive and yet, in the end, forced into agreement; not a church that is blind to problems, suspicious of empirical knowledge yet claiming competent authority for everyone and everything; not a church that is quarrelsome, impatient and unfair in dialogue; not a church that is closed to the real world. In short, the future does not belong to a church that is dishonest! No, the future belongs: To a church that knows what it does not know; to a church that relies upon God’s grace and wisdom and has in its weakness and ignorance a radical confidence in God; to a church filled with intellectual desire, spontaneity, animation and fruitfulness; to a church that has the courage of initiative and the courage to take risks; to a church that is completely committed to Jesus Christ. In short, the future belongs to a thoroughly truthful church.” Hans Kung, The Church,

“We are called to be the church: to celebrate God’s presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil….. In life, in death, in life beyond, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.” A new church vision for the San Diego area includes the following vision and mission:

  1. To include welcome and celebrate children and their families in worship and church programs creating needed and meaningful intergenerational community church experience. Families are too often lonely and religiously isolated in America. They are religious seekers looking for a church to raise their children. As a ministers I feel a responsibility to serve these families and offer a renewal of progressive Christianity. The only way we will change the world is to change the way we raise our children. This focus on children and families is not only the right thing to do, because children and their families are shamefully under served and spiritually adrift in our culture, but it assures church growth and vitality. The families in this area have the time and money to help build a vibrant Christian center.
  2. To use the visual and performing arts to revitalize the religious imagination, create meaning, truth, beauty and love in worship and church programs. As Matthew Fox says, “ To enter into art as meditation is the primary prayer form for healthy adults.”
  3. To lift up the central message of Jesus, “I swear to you, whatever you did for the least of these members of my family, you did for me as well.” Matthew 25:40.
  4. To lift up and teach mysticism, our oneness as a holy human family and the ecologic concern that we are all interconnected with the holiness of creation, which invites us to be a welcoming congregation that fosters multiculturalism and gender, class and socio and economic diversity, to make all people welcome at the table, in celebration of our one holy human family, one with God, and all of creation.
  5. To encouraging self care and working in non hierarchical partnership models of cooperation in all aspects of church and family life.
  6. To become a healing ministry center that celebrates transformative healing by encouraging 12 step programs, spiritual direction, and other recovery and healing ministries.
  7. To use gender inclusive language and to become a spiritual center for women to explore women’s issues, providing women’s support groups and education in women’s perspectives, feminist theology and gender justice in all aspects of the church, family and society as well as to provide men’s support groups for the same reasons.
  8. To promote interfaith dialogue and education about all the world religions.
  9. To provide and encourage the need for prayer practices and other spiritual disciplines and daily prayer services.
  10. To create an intergenerational and teenage theater program to both give families and kids a needed and celebratory artistic expression as well as create a community out reach program offering a liberal Christian understanding.
