NEED Playwright/theater artist to collaborate on a one woman show, “The Third Way” a story about a woman who survives domestic violence and has a raising of consciousness about feminist issues and violence against women and children in a global context. Women begin to come to her in her dreams, like Leymah Gbowee who also suffered from domestic violence and went on to lead the peace movement of both Christian and Moslem women in Liberia, Lysistrata who began a sex strike against war in ancient Greece, Corizon Aquino in the Philippines, Betty Williams and Marinead Corrigan in Ireland, and Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma. They teach her a “Third Way,” never to fight back or to flee from violence or aggression but always seeking a third way of creative problem solving in community. This play will end with 15 minutes of improvisation in the manner of Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed with the audience. This multimedia project will include music, giant rod puppets and audience participation. Payment to be negotiated. Rev. Bonnie Tarwater has a MFA from ACT in SF and is a Unitarian Universalist minister.
